I tried MIG welding about 15 years ago when I did a car bodywork restoration evening class & never got on with it. I was used to gas welding and liked that and ner persisted with the MIG. Trouble is gas isn't good on body panels unles operator is 1st class. After a long layoff I bought the stick welder (SIP Merlin 210) to do some light fabrication.
At the moment I'm busy transplanting a V8 into my landrover. A major part of this is reshaping the bulkhead to make room. I was almost in tears last weekend after trying to stick weld it (no gas equip these days). It was turning really ugly.
I bit the bullet today and bought the Clarke 151TE after reading this forum & website. I can't believe how well it all started out of the box. I even managed a vertical weld. I can't wipe the grin off of my face! Why didn't I do this before!
