Welding wrought iron

My son has very old wrought iron gates on his drive, various bits have rusted away, luckily not the scrolly bits, the corroded bits are parts of the frame. My question is, can you mig old wrought to modern mild steel ok, or use arc or which is best please? I’ve never tried to weld anything like this & thought best to ask before I start & possibly start something that I can’t complete.

I'd arc it and use the same type of nickel rods as for cast ..

I've done that job several times,
E312 arc rods.
You.can get it in mig wire as well but I normally have to do them outside so arc is the obvious tool for it

The few bits I've done have migged very nicely, surprisingly so. Has the potential to be very variable though I expect

Those are stainless rods I believe ? I was advised many years ago to use stainless rods on dissimilar metals, or stuff you just weren't sure of, so those would be a good call I'd think
