welding with out oxy

in my old school i used a welding torch that run of comparased air (not oxy) just standerd air out of a compresser and propane can any one tell me if they know any thing about this or if a standerd toch will work like that thanx

I think your referring to a brazing hearth

Ours worked from compressed air and coal gas. IIRC it was for brazing, each station was a stand with firebricks on the top and its own compressor in the base.
