welding ventilations?

as you can see in my picture,I have very limited space.
I was thinking of making a narrow box with a built in mesh(size..500mm x 300 x100mm deep) with a square to round pipe leading to a extractor motor(or what ever you call it) .
of course the pipe will going outside through a vent. this design is similar to the ones that I used to have at my old work place.
if any one can come up with a better idea please fire away and if possible inc a drawing or picture.

We use an old vacuum cleaner with a funnel attatched to the end seems to work fine so far Plus can be moved around the work shop...

have any of you guys rigged up a polisher similar to this that I've made? if so what kind of extractor did you make.just picking ideas. I know what I have in mind but just incase you might have a better idea.

If the motor has enough power could you put a double pulley on it and use the extra drive to run a fan. A bit of a cowling around the mop in the area where the dust etc comes off connected to the fan with some flexi. Then duct it away from the fan with more flexi tubing.

it is 1.5 hp can't stop it it just burns the tubing so I would have thought it'll be powerfull enough.
got any pictures or drawing showing this set up?

If you could get a centrifugal (?) type fan and drive it from the motor maybe by another belt. Knock up a bit of a cowling type thing (a bit like part of a bench grinder cover) where it would catch the dust coming off the mop with some sort of tubing to connect it all up.

This dodgy drawing is the sort of arrangement i was thinking of.
