Hi All,
Can anybody provide any tips on MIG welding steel upside down. I'm repairing the sill on my MGB and whilst I can lay a reasonable weld down "the right way up" it all goes to rats when working underneath the car.
Apart from the issues of getting comfortable before i start the pass, the main problem seems to be the weld not flowing into the pool. It turns into a molten ball and works its way back towards the contact tip, eventually dropping off and landing on the floor. Fortunately I've not had one down my sleeve yet, bit it's only a matter of time i think!
The one technique that seems to have improved matters has been reducing the angle between the torch and what I'm welding. This seems to have helped, but it's still not ideal.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Regards... Phil
