Welding Table Completed (Pics.)

Found a nice piece of flat, heavy gauge boiler-plate at the scrapyard and along with some salvaged rectangular section tube; I`ve made a small version of the larger welding bench I recently assembled.....although it`s a mini-me table-top partner to it`s big brother bench; it is (ahem) 'slightly' heavier than I planned.

Total cost: less than £10.

There is a large useful scrapyard at Bala, but for the heavy-gauge stuff I wait until I`m visiting my sister on the Wirral: McCoy`s* scrapyard in Rock Ferry has shipyard-sized plate and sections as well as smaller steel-stock, aluminium and stainless usually for very little money (he also often has interesting/unusual stuff: cranes, hydraulic-machinery and plant).

Aye, there`s the rub!.....

.....I think the portable aspect must`ve got (erm) 'lost' in translation.

I`ve got a 6' x 4' freestanding table and this new 2' x 4' mounted on the bench-top.....but I`d really like a grinding/cutting bench (w/vice and saw mounted) to complete the three.
I hadn`t previously quite understood how much grit and dust that abrasive work can generate (and how pervasive it is); so, would want to have that bench as far as possible from the cleaner areas of the workshop.

I feel another scrap pile scrambling-expedition coming on!

Sturdy bench you put together there Debs, I agree, it would be a good idea to seek out similar sturdy legs, then scrounge, or worse case scenario buy heavy duty braked castor's for moving bench around. As I mentioned before, keeps the abrasive dust further away from you're precision kit!

Good for the better weather days, you can wheel the bench outside, nothing better than phaffing with the sun beating down on you.

Ahh,, it looked much bigger than 4 x 2 to me and I noticed you turned it over, I was asking about that. Good idea castors but you can really only have 3 on. If you have 4 and the least chip gets under one, the bench wobbles. (just thought I would say as I have a 30" x 30" portable with vise).
