Welding symbols and plans.

Afternoon people.

I'm looking at doing a welding course leading to being qualified.

I'm asking as I have zero idea about welding symbols and plans.

Are European and American weld symbols and plans the same ?

If anyone can recommend any tutorials, I'd appreciate it.

No they are not the same, have a look for recent threads about this subject

The ISO system isn't too bad to understand. If you can find the right standard (an older copy floating on the internet will do) it will teach you most of what you need to know. Can't remember the standard off the top of my head.

BS EN 22553 (old one) or ISO 2553, : Welding and allied processes. Symbolic representation on drawings. Welded joints

(ISO 22553 is all about paint and varnishes, so watch out for that one)

We use System A, which has a dashed line on the bottom, to indicate the underside of where the arrow points to.
Most basic welds use either square/Vee butts, or fillets. the rest of the symbols are for fancy welds
