Welding stainless steel

A group I'm involved with wants to have a massive heart shape fixed into the pavement by the shore where I live. Personally, I think it's a total non-starter as I doubt the council are going to sign off on us erecting and setting an eight foot tall monument in the middle of the pavement.


...but... just in case it happens, I've already made clear that I'm comfortable doing MIG or stick on mild steel but I suspect they will want to propose stainless. What's the preferred process for that?

A fair bit of that depends on how you plan to make it really, and the final finish you're looking for.

Welds polished out? Whole thing with a swirly flap disc level of polish? I'd mig that...

If its going to be mirrored up, I'd be tigging it.

If you don't have access to a Tig setup, that may influence you're decision somewhat.
