Hi
I recently butt welded in a patch patch and after cleaning up the weld noticed a small section where it didn't fully penetrate and after planishing the welds I can see the beginnings of a hairline crack (1 inch wide). I have a few pinholes as well
To remedy this, should I be:
a) cutting a small slit over the hairline crack with a cut off wheel to open up the gap a little (as the surrounding welds pulled the original 1mm gap closer) so the weld has somewhere to go and not just pile on top?
b) if accessible from behind, is there any advantage to welding up the gaps / pin holes from behind?
Appreciate any help.
