Hi All,
Looking at buying my (our) first MIG welder. I say our, because it turns out that my wife and I have a shared hobby! Who Knew!
We have an old stick welder that works ok, but having just completed a basic intro MIG course at the local college, we would like some advice on what machine to buy - MIG wise.
Would be helpful I laid out what we are looking to do and where will do it:
What? We plan on doing Craft welding - garden ornaments, small stuff, horse shoe knick knacks etc - although I am currently collecting box section (2mm thick) from ebay and FB Market place to make a welding bench
Where? Welding will take place in our garage. with the roller door up for ventilation. It is powered by a consumer unit fed from the main board in the house, so could get juice on a 32A breaker at 230V using a 13A plug.
So, what machine should we be looking at. I understand the difference between gas and gasless and think that we want to go gassed - but which gas? CO2, Argon? Mixed Gas?
Are there any machines to avoid? Crap quality, poor support, hard to get spares etc?
We have a budget of between £300 and £400 for the machine, including gas and reg etc.
We have looked through the Buying a Welder section here and while very good, there is nothing like a recommendation.
Over to you people.
Your thoughts greatly appreciated.
