welding iron fittings

whats the take on welding iron bsp fittings on to steel tank. most of mine are but are they supposed to be steel never had a problem welding them on and done the obligatory hit it hard with a hammer test and they haven't broke off

if that works and it doesnt leak... no problem unless its a pressure vessel

the biggest fittings are half inch bsp on to the tank. not a problem in 45 years just curious to know seeing as though its a welding forum. I know the difference of the 2 metals

Elbows and tees and some sockets are cast steel, half and full nipples and some sockets are made from steel BSP tube, so no issues welding either, I've done loads of them with TIG, Mig, and MMA, never had a problem

You'd have to weld this malleable iron BSP reducer, they forgot to thread it

Then really you should be using a nickel cast iron electrode, although many people use low hydrogen electrodes, I have many times, they are a lot cheaper than Nickel, the trick really is to be very sure what the material is, especially if its a critical application
