Welding in a small garden

I do my projects in the winter when everyone is indoors with their windows closed...also when it's raining I can pretty much do whatever I want...never had any complaints.

If you start grinding and welding on a lovely warm weekend when everyone is in their gardens then you're likely to have problems.

Of course you'll need a shed (preferably metal) to protect you from the weather!

Maybe, as you say, I'll have to keep it as a primarily winter hobby Cheers for the response!

That's your biggest hazard.
Explain to your wife, girlfriend, mom or whoever why the garden is now filled with black and rusty stuff.
You're likely to get injured for that

Fortunately she's a bit of a DIY nut so she's got no issue (as long as I make useful stuff )

I reckon if you got a small metal shed and stick to days when it's cold or raining (which is most of the year in the UK!) I think you'd be ok.

If it's too noisy just line the shed with something that absorbs sound.

The main problem I can see with this, is once the neighbours find out you can weld stuff.
You will be inundated 'can you fix this' daft little jobs from said neighbours.

I'd only just started learning Mig when a neighbour asked if I could weld his steel frame thingy.
Initially I didn't know how to say no, so had a look - it was the frame of his backpack paramotor !

Then I said no ...

I've never had a neighbour ask me to weld anything. But I've had the clown out back come round and complain about noise, at 4.30pm that it was night (winter - dark) and his kids (just home from school) couldn't get to sleep.

Told him to go away and close the gate . . .

His other half obviously came round to my opinion of him as he went to live elsewhere not that long after . . .

When I was restoring a Type2 VW, I had the complete front panel off & busy with hammer, grinder etc. & the next door neighbour stuck her head round. I said “am I making too much noise” she said “no, I’m just being nosy, seeing what you are doing” they’ve long moved on, but the replacements are as good as gold as well.
