Ive just replaced a blade on my Husqvarna hedge cutter, £55 for one
I was wondering about the possibility of welding broken blades?

I was wondering about the possibility of welding broken blades?
I thought of that, but its a double action cutter and theres 2 teeth missing, so the way the cutting pattern overlaps meant i would lose too much blade.Could you 'trim' the other blade to match? You'd have a cutter, just shorter......![]()
Assuming it's a high carbon steel only then you could do it with an A15 filler but I would heat it up first. The joint will be softer that the blade mind and its best to leave it that way rather than encourage hardness through quenching. A safe bet for welding unknown materials is 312 filler.I should have put a picture of the damaged blade up first, im assuming it would be high carbon steel.
Like i posted, the part is missing (i didnt break it), so it cant be repaired. This is for future reference incase there is another mishap.
What filler type would be best if a blade needed welded?

You made me smile, i like your attitude.Mine broke inside the gear box where the reciprocating magic happens. I welded it up with ordinary welding wire about 10 years ago and it's still going strong. I also welded the clutch bell which had cracked, but now the blades still move at idle, so probably not the safest. I thought at the time "it'll do for this year" but she is still going and I have no mercy with it.
