Welding different size metal setting's

Hi

Can anybody help, I am using the R-Tech 181, I want to weld a 8mm round bar to the back of a 3mm plate using 0.8 wire, can anybody point me in the right direction for setting the correct wire speed etc.
I know this machine has a quick setting, do I set it to 8mm or 3mm thickness. any help would be very much appreciated, Tom

If I were using the presets I would start with 5mm and aim the weld more towards the bar, this should give you a starting point to do test welds but learning how to set volts and wire speed is important even with a macine like you have.

Is the intention for the bar to be welded flat against the plate, or for it to stand off at right angles to the plate? For the first, I would go for 5mm as an initial setting, and for the second case, probably 3mm would be fine.

Hi voipio, sorry it wasn't very clear, it is to lay the bar flat on top of the plate, I then intended to weld along both sides of the bar, thanks for your help
