Welding cylinder, help attach earth clamp?

I want to weld a cylinder together, However because it is rounded on each ends how do I attach the earth clamps?? Any suggestions appreciated.

tack a piece of steel or a bolt to the cylinder then attach the clamp to it, just knock it off when you've finished and grind the tacks down.

You could always hold the earth in place with a tension strap or jubilee clip (depending on the diameter of course!)

Ditto, OR If you have a clean steel bench you could place the cylinder on it and attach your clamp to the bench instead

I would still make sure the workpiece is clamped or held down hard so it doesn't momentarily break the earth.

Any of the above, of clamp it onto a small plate, then tack the plate to the cylinder.

One assumes its not a gas cylinder... containing propane or acetylene!

yes but be carefull about welding benches , ALWAYS make sure they are bonded for electrical safety

I simply tack'd a bolt to the cylinder and then welded the halves together. Thanks for all the replies

Think carefully about earth bonding - if you get an earth fault bonded items can become live, making the situation worse.

Electrical equipment should be earthed, unless double insulated, so any fault currents are safely kept away from the user, but if the earthing in the building is iffy this fault current may make a table, radiator &c &c live.

I would definitely go for earth trips (RCDs) on power circuits.
