Planning out a little art project. Mild steel frame to hold two sheets of glass. Steel would be 1/16" thick. I need to weld in some small tabs to hold the glass in the frame. Is this a hopeless pursuit? Would it work if I used tempered glass?
i've seen it done for large shop windows, lenghts of sq tube are used as beading (is that correct term?) they are just tacked and spoted into place to hold the glass in the frame. remember dont mig spot two close to the corner etc, you want to be able to change the pane of glass.
That Cold Front looks good, but seems unavailable on this side of the pond. I think I might have to go with tempered glass for this and just go for it.
Ive seen the glazing method that dannyweld refers to, the glazing bead is usually wide enough to keep heat away from the glass, a bit more information on the design of your frame would be useful, but have you considered soft soldering a retaining tab on either with a proper tinmans soldering iron,or a decent 100 watt electric iron,
