Welding Chrome Vandium

I have a leaking exhaust manifold on my car and there is 1 bolt which is difficult to get to. Am I able to modify a Chrome Vandium spanner to enable me to approach the nut from another angle?

Will there be difficulty in welding something like this?

you can do it but be careful with the spanner afterwards. The joint area might be a bit brittle.....if you need any hammer assistance dont be surprised if it breaks. See the section on welding steels (home)

Just heat it up to bright red and bend it in a vice till it fits then dunk it in water till its cool it wont be it wont be as strong as a new one but it should work

Warm up and bend. I've got a few done this way for special access weaker than original but stronger than cut and welded. Also have a few with jaws ground down to fit in small spaces.

I bought a set of Kamasa crescent wrenches to allow me to get to the hidden nut. It was still a pain, but managed it in the end.

They're great aren't they.
Quality isn't to bad and if they break, they are next to nothing to replace.
Had to bend one to access a TDC bell housing bolt on a 200tdi.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Its an MR2 so still suffers with "Small Hands Required" syndrome

Will have a go at bending one if I can get my blow torch out and not burn the garage down.

Hi,

I've had 4 mr2#s (3 of them turbo's), rebuilt the engine on my last turbo. When you say it's leaking? where from?

They suffer from the threads stripping on the studs, if it is that, you'l need re-thread and put helicoils in the head.....pita!
