Welding certificate… what does it mean?

I have enquired about welding job and I was told I need certificate to weld structural steel which is what I was expecting… I explained I have worked at firm that made farm buildings and I have done jobs for myself over the years… the boss at firm said having certificate does not make you better welder , it’s for insurance purposes

And thats why they want certification in the first place.
Structural mig really isn't very hard. Get the welding equipment set correctly in good condition, monkey just pulls trigger.

Thats how I passed it anyway
