welding car panels and sills

Hello guys.

Im new to welding and will be after a clarke 90 running gas.

Am i right in thinking that ill need. Thin wire on panels such as .6. Could someone explain the theory in using differnt size wires?

Also for sils ill need .8 is that right?

And lastly whats the best type of wire to buy?

No .6 will do both no problem.
.8 for thicker material, with a 90 amp mig you wont be welding anything to thick anyway.
If you have a look through the stickies there is a section on welding techniques including thin material.
If its your first time get a couple of old scrap panels from a local scrappies and practice on that first.

Fine for car panels and bodywork, but runs out of breath on thicker stuff.

.8 is a good general purpose wire, will do car panel, subframes and chassis nicely. You only need to change your settings. You have to watch out for heat though, be carefull not to put too much into the repair or you will distort the hell out of the panel

I've been using my Pro-90 for a few years, welding anything from thin (very thin / rusty) car panels & patching up rusty exhausts to heavier security attachments.
I'm often using max power but not found anything yet (home diy projects / car repairs) that it can't cope with.
Tried .6 and .8 wire when I first got it, then just got a large reel (not sure - think it's .6 )and that gets used that for everything.
Started with disposable bottles but soon moved to pub c02, weld isn't as flat as with disposables but it's tidy and solid.

Missed this first time round, some guys say it doesnt matter, but i prefer to get flat wound rolls, i get less bindingthat way. Invest in a wire cleaner/lube pad, its like a rod of felt with a slit in one side that clips over your wire to prevent dirt building up in your liner.
