welding burning trough problem

Hi,
I'm in need of some help. I have a new shape bmw 3 series and it is in my local bodyshop having a new roof skin fitted. I went in today to see it and the bodyshop have removed the old skin but is having problems welding the new skin on. They say the metal is some reinforced type and needs a special welder. You can see where they tried to weld it it has burnt trough the metal even when he turned the welder right down. Has anyone has this problem. Im in Leicester if any one can help.

find a better body shop i think modern cars are spot welded or mig brazed

Sounds like a right handy outfit if they've removed the old one then realised they can't attach the new one!

What should i be paying for the roof skin to be welded.

As said, take it to a place which knows what is needed - get it wrong and the structual integrity of the shell could be compromised.

I have taken many cars to these people and they always do the job to a satisfactory standard. They deal in accident damage, mostly to top end cars. They have changed many roof skins and not come across this problem. I think this is the last one i take to them. The structural integrity is fine as its just the skin but i want the welding to be done to a high standard.

TechnicAl that's harsh.... also very funny just woke the wife up laughing out loud.

I had the same happen on on my Spifire, but that was a soft top! I came out to find the yob had made the softtop frame into a man trap of sorts, his foot was well and truly trapped!
