Having got some good panels of a breaker for repairing my wifes work van I finally got round to making a start only had them a year...

Working with my Clarke Turbo 100EN on the lowest setting and wire as fast as I can without push off it still burns through if you have a moments pause.

I run gasless wire as I only have fits and starts of welding and 99.9% is outside and I got fed up of never having gas when I really need it so I know it's not the best setup but I have an old Ford and weld that the most but the van is a Diahatsu and I know a few others that work on them and welding is always a pain I had planned to spot weld a lot of it in until I pulled the glass out, I'm suprised that I didn't have sliding glass.

gasless is most of your problem sooty vans are thin to start with even Co2 pub gas would be better than gasless

My view is gasless wire is a problem fullstop.
Better buy some new overalls now. save waiting till yours drop off with all the holes.

with a low end welder running gasless you are never going to get a good run on thin van steel. Even the portamig lads might struggle with that material. This is where inverters come into their own with stepless voltage control.

Which ever you use don't forget your copper backing to curb burn through.
