Welding ally bicycle frames ?

I have a couple of spare aluminium bike frames and a set of Shimano hub gear wheels I want to marry up, both frames have vertical dropouts, and I don't want to use a chain tensioner, so I'm thinking of cutting the dropouts off and making new horizontal ones to be welded on, will this work ? Will the lack of heat treatment make it weak ?
