Welding a car

i just got my mig its a sip 130 turbo gas/gasless. this is a great site and the tutorials are very helpful. i have a morris oxford in need of restoration and bought the welder to do some patches its mostly body work would a sheet of 0.8 tin do my job.

Better to get same thickness - 20 guage?

you'll be lucky to get any 20 gauge, 0.8 is the thinnest most stockholders keep

with welding a car, its not like normal welding

you will be very unlikely to pull the trigger and weld on most repairs, theres normally lots of spotting to keep down panel warpage and to stop the weld pool getting too heavy

20 Guage was all I could get in Norfolk........

20 swg is 0.9mm, most stockholders just refer to it as 1mm. 0.8 isn't a normal stock thickness, next size down is 22swg or 0.7mm, personally for floor and light chassis repairs I prefer to use 18swg, 1.2mm.

thanks for all of the replies i tried welding with the 0.8 as i couldnt get it changed. it was pretty good and not many holes will post pics later
