welder switching to single phase

A tig welder which states single and 3phase. How involved is it to switch it from 3phase to single?

Is it odd to find a yellow 110v plug on the end if it was apparently being previously used on 3phase?

depends what type of '3 phase' it is
some are actually 2 phase,230v each and 400v between each other
more use the 3 phases

dont know about the yellow plug

the data plate will tell all

If it is and AC/DC transformer TIG, it will be single phase. It probably has jumpers to configure for 230 or 415V.

Yes, its quite an old beast, AC/DC. Ill have a good look at it tomorrow, keeping the jumpers in mind. Cheers.

yellow 110v plug will be an output to power the water cooler


I just got a transformer so gonna have a play with setting it up once I've read the instructions so I can make sure its jumped correctly

Looked at the machine today. It was a Hobart 250Amp AC/DC. there was a scale on the back showing the voltage setting. I guess there is a rotary switch inside to select the voltage.

It had a standard red 3phase plug on it. I think the seller must be colour blind, I dont know where he got yellow from.

I knew it was going to be a beast of a machine, but it turned out to be an absolute monster, so I had to turn it down because of its sheer size. I would think its well worth the £695 he was asking for it, if you have an aircraft hangar to put it in
