ive got a NuTool 185 Mig, I hadnt used it in a while and it just sat, went to use it and for some reason it would only work on 2 settings, turned out some of the contacts in the switch were a bit sticky, managed to sort that out OK.
started welding with it again quite regularly and all seemed fine until sunday night, all of a sudden it went off, turns out it blew a fuse in the plug, changed the fuse out and checked all the other fuses in it and they are fine however when i try and use it now it seems like there is no power in it, even though everything seems to work. as an example welding on no.5 which should weld something like 6mm plate, the weld just sits on top of the metal, there is no penetration at all and when welding its really spattery, gas is coming through OK. or when welding on no1. there isnt enough power to even melt the wire - the wire just glows red and winds up on top of the metal. its like this until you get it up to no.4 then it starts melting the wire but as said before its really spattery.
tonight when i was welding with it the fuse in the garage blew - thought that was a bit strange because thats never happened before. changed the fuse in the main board - it didnt blow again but i didnt use it for more than 5 mins or so.
any ideas what could cause something like this? i checked the earth, that seems OK. any help would be much appreciated.
