Hello,

I think i better ask some questions before going ahead with my vehicle repair and i'm sure some helpful person will come up with the answers and possible advice.
I know the difference between a butt weld and overlap weld but what is a seam weld?
Does it matter what you use for an M.O.T?

It can be confusing reading through different opinions on the forum.

For the purposes of car repairs, seam welding just means that patches and repair sections are continuously welded, ie no gaps,

There is a special process based on resistance welding, also called seam welding, (think of the joint on 2 halves of a fuel tank). not applicable to mot welding though.

As long as it's welded around every side, without gaps then it's fine.

I think I understand seam weld now.
It's like there's a rim around the pieces welded together that sticks out from the over all shape.

Plus M.O.T welding, butt weld ok so long as continuose weld.
