Hello all,
Just joined and completely new to this, sorry if this has already been covered.
I'm currently building up a classic mini and was wondering what effect zink weld through primer has on the strength of the weld. Is there any alternatives or manufacturers that can be recommended?
Thanks

to the world of rust in yer eye, spark burns on your arms and molten metal in places molten metal should not go!! I find the zinc spray from screwfix (see pic) works well (and is cheeper than the weld through stuff normally sold at motor parts suppliers that start with Hal...) I think most recomend removing any coating on the actual weld area (1/2" eather side?) What I usually do is cutout the new piece of metal, shape to fit then spray. Set to one side (dryes on warm day in about 30-45 mins). Use this time to clean the area on the car ready for welding. Check fit and mark for any spot weld holes, punch holes amd then mark through holes onto the car and use a wire brush in drill to get spot weld area very clean. Clean spray from edge of new metal and around spot weld hole. Fit, weld, grind. Then touchup spray where welded. This stuff from SF takes the heat very well and does not seam to lift even near the weld. Quite often I don't even clean the area on newly sprayed metal just the spotweld holes and ori metal
