weld thickness

Hello,

Im trying to decide which welder to purchase to start the learning process.
I have noticed that with mig welders there is a maximum thickness of weld specified depending the grade or expence of welder but there is no stated weld thickness with tig welders.
Why is this and what is a good indicator of a good tig welder?

Weld thickness is harder to quantify in TIG, a lot has to do with the speed, tungsten, arc length, and gas used.

It is about the same, a 120A TIG or MIG can do 1/8" (3.2mm). TIG can get away with a bit less current if you go slower.
