I searched and can't really find any info on this. I have a Lincoln 180 HD welder. I was wondering if I can weld aluminum with this machine. Any info on this is greatly appreciated.
You need pure argon and ideally a Teflon liner, though to be honest I haven't tried welding ally with a mig because of this, that and the fact that all I have heard about it is nightmare stories.
WYN,
Yup, Yup that is my welder exactly. Ok now I know what I need. Thank you so much....Stupid me, I should of looked in my manual. So sorry to waste your time.
With 0.035 4043 or 0.030 5356 wire you can do aluminum with most MIGs. It is fiddly though and not easy on thin stuff. Forget 0.030 4043 without a spool gun.
There are several threads on it here. I have done it a few times. Worked ok but I had a dozen test pieces before I did the few actual welds I needed. Then play agin with settings for the next time on a different thickness.
