Weird looking sander

I used to have one very similar that took tubes of sandpaper that went over a black foam drive roller. I think it was made for re finishing stainless, but the consumables were too expensive for my use and I passed it on the bay of fleas

It's just a burnisher that's fitted with a surface prep/paint strip poly wheel rather than a flap wheel or a scotchbrite wheel.

It is basically a cheap version of a burnisher, presumably it's cheaper to make with bearings supporting both ends of the drum rather than one end only?

Probably fine for surface prep if it's powerful enough.
Might not be so useful for finishing stainless as the drums on the proper ones are usually completely exposed so you can see exactly what you are doing

Although to be fair they are selling it as a prep tool rather than a finishing tool.
My only concern is that it looks like the frame will hit the workpiece before you have used all of the drum up and the drums are expensive so you want to use as much as you can!

We used something very similar to remove the baked on rock hard jointing compound on steam turbine split-line surfaces, Worked absolutely great and quite speedy too, Previously only thing that would touch the compound was chunks of broken big grind stones used by hand, And it took a couple of men A few days to complete the job,

His is a Chinese burnisher, different thing to this. Much better tbh, I can see several drawbacks to the one above. Most have been mentioned

It's a cheapo burnisher sometimes called a satinizer.
