Had a downpour about 1600, lots of thunder but no lightning.

I have just returned from Cullercoats, after picking Littl'un up from a party. Ye flamin' Gods, the absolute worst rain I have ever driven in. 20mph for the majority of the 9 miles there. Double speed wipers could not keep up. Coming home things had eased and I was happy to do 40mph in places, but it has set off again, now I am indoors.
The lightening was marvellous, I could see better during the flashes.
Naturally, some of the drains could not cope, so big waves were in order at times.
Not fun at all.

I nipped across the country at lunchtime to collect my bender from Cumbriasteve (nice chap, looks like Peter Sellers 
) and got back at quarter to 7... there was lightning going off all over the sky as I hoofed the last 10 miles or so, trying to get back before I had to stop and put the roof on (the car, not the house).
I was just washing assorted mud and cow-muck off the TVR (thanks to a road closure near Rowrah, I had to use Mr Garmin's invention to get me round some back lanes that clearly never see anything other than Border Collies and John Deeres; I did get some dirty looks as I rattled windows with the exhaust) when the heavens opened. In no time flat there was literally an inch of water on the patio.
