Weakening Contact Adhesive

I want to remove the Aluminium makers/info plate from me Lathe control box to affix to a purpose made box I've made,I'm assuming contact adhesive has been used to secure it to the plastic casing,do you reckon that immersing it in hot water will weaken it enough for removing it?

you could try some cellulose thinners dribbled down the back of the plate but it could soften the paint on the plate or the machine.
i would have thought something like a hair dryer or hot air gun would be more effective then hot water

Ooh! no Sir, these would play havoc destroying the printed legend on the plate as would the cellulose stripper.

I was thinking piano or cheese wire, if the badge is quite small I would try a scalpel or razor blade.

Could try heat, most of them let go over 50deg although there are hi-temp ones that go to 70, maybe higher. I use the hi-temp ones on bikes seats & car stuff because the std glue lets go on a warm day.

boiling water from the kettle then pick it off with your nail....had to remove age old decals from my pick-up and just used boiling water to soften them and they peeled off in one

Warm it up then pull some 0.6mm wire down behind it to release the glue.

Acetone will loosen the stuff off but might affect the paint. IPA may work, and shouldn't affect paint.

IPA tends to be a bit crappy for stuff like that. I'd guess a citric solvent might stand more of a chance than IPA.

Blimey talk about over-complicating chaps, acetone will murder paint even 2k. Just heat it up and be done.

I've got them off in the past quite easily, I use a scalpel to lift the edge and then a cheese wire, pretty easy really.
