I agree with post #18 and #19. Wire brushes don't cut it, use a die grinder with a sanding wheel on it (flapper wheel #80 grit). You want to get that metal as clean as possible to set the weld up for success. yes you need to bevel the end of the metal so the puddle can seep in for ultimate penetration and i also think you wire speed was too high.
