so bobby (the remaining horse) needs a companion. its been a rough few weeks for him as they've been together 18 or more years.
but we cant magic up another horse overnight.
we are picking up a loan horse on wednesday. the owner is getting divorced, its out on loan already and the owner is NOT happy with the situation he is in. which is not surprising, as he hasn't any muscle, never gets ridden, has been abandoned pretty much in a field and hasn't had new shoes for 3 MONTHS!
on top of that he was ridden for the first time in a long time yesterday, by the son of the loaner, who galloped him round, on 3 month old shoes with no muscle mass. can you imagine having had to run a marathon after you've sat on the sofa for the past year? in badly fitting shoes? yeah, hes lame today.....
anyway, hopefully bobby likes him...

he's here

just look at this poor bugger. so underweight, tucked up due to malnutrition and no condition at all..... we've given him two small feeds, adlib hay and plenty of grass, he will be getting 3 small feeds everyday and has already been wormed.
on the upside, he came from a very isolated situation and his vaccines are up to date, so as bobby seemed to be getting on with him well, they got turned out together straight away.
5 mins after first meeting, still a bit squeely
friends now, already mutual grooming...

and playtime

That’s great news, he really landed on his hooves when he ended up with youits all been a success so far.
with good food, grooming and a emergency farrier visit to sort his feet out, (which meant he immediately went from 3/10 lame to 10/10 sound) his coat is shining, his energy levels have sky rocketed, and they both seem happy. there's a bit of 'im boss do as i say' crap going on, but that's normal and nothing to worry about.
of course nothing but time is going to put weight on him, but notwithstanding still being a bit of a hatrack, he is sooo much better
he was ridden for the first time friday, just a light hack, walking, nothing strenuous, and apparently he was very full of beans, so a typical thoroughbred then
its going to take a lot of schooling to make him good enough for a relative novice to ride, but in a few months you're not going to know him![]()
