water jet cutting?

Hi Guys
I am looking to get some components made up.
I need some flat strip rings, 3mm thick and 450mm outside diameter and 390mm inside diameter (30mm across the width of the strip).

my first thought ws to get them rolled, aparently not possible.
What about water jet cuting or laser cut?
I could plasma cut them but I need about 80 of them and they have to be accurate so this is not realy an option.
Can anybody give me a ball park price for them as I need to know if my plan is viable. If it is too costly I have a different idea, but I like rings.

Also can anybody reccomend a company to make them for me.

The cost is all worked put on the time taken (obviously). I had some quotes recently and for something of a very roughly similar size they wanted around £40 a pop including material which was ally. However, that was 6mm and ally takes longer to cut than steel so I would expect it to be less than that. You might want to consider getting 1/3's or 1/4's of circles cut and welding them together so you maximise what you get out of a sheet. If you just have them cut as rings there'll be massive waste.

Oh, and the cheapest I found was City Engineering in Bristol.

Hi, Chunko,
Why not contact A spiral wound joint dealer of manufacturer, they may be able to fix you up with something very close to the size you req'r by using the inner or outer rings from a spiral wound gasket. Just a thought!

Cutting up tube? 30mm thick, I will buy the wifey a hacksaw.

Spiral wound? googled it and ca see what you mean, but they are all in India and China.
I had wondered if they could be made as a spiral.
I was hoping that a good ring roller would do the job but I a told it is too tight a curve.

What am I making? can you guess?

£40 yes but that was for something of a similar size as the full circle you want in 6mm ally. 3mm steel would more than halve the material cost and if you did it in bits to minimise wastage and the number of cuts required it would be a lot less.

Obviously it'd depend on what's available locally to you but my local profile cutters offer plasma, laser and waterjet... for what you're after plasma cutting would be the cheapest.

Laser cutting

Hi. I've used companies called Laser Jet; Pegasus Profiles and Islebest. They all produce execellent quality jobs. Google them and send a drawing for a quote. We had three sources as their prices varied as to their material in stock and work load. If you follow the job up on the phone they will also advise on any minor changes which could reduce the cost. Rolling is the way to do it, Barnshaws can roll flat on edge 30 x 3 down to 250 inside diameter, angle ring have done similar small flanges for me as well. 80 pieces is a decent quantity you should get a keen price

Try googling for metaflex spiral wound joints, I'm almost sure they will be U.K. Made, or maybe klinger make them as well. After major O/H on petro-chemical plants there are thousands used ones sent for scrap.All sizes upto and beyond 30" dia.

Id think rolling would be a way, would save much material.
What i find rolling thin stuff to fairly tight shapes is the stock width decreases, and you end up with a deformed edge where pressure is appplied, almost making it into an 'I' section. I would think that JMR/Angle ring/Barnshaws would do a setup one or two, then would be able to just feed a length of flat in and make a big slinky

If you can use cnc plasma cut parts, it might be worth sending snowcat a pm.
But you would be better of having them in sections if you can to keep the material costs down

Laser cutting won't be cheap.
I work here and they'll charge about £100 per hour to run the lasers. Do a damn good job though .
