Waiting for the BT infinity engineer

Thats just sweet !!
Another here that would never use BT. Currently with Orange by default after they absorbed whoever took over Freeserve, I can't remember now ! I wouldn't choose Orange otherwise, as they once ripped me off on a mobile phone ! As a rural dweller it's unlikely I will ever get a fiber or cable service, so I'm stuck with GPO copper from the 50's !! It's a wonder my internet isn't in black and white !

I've been with Virgin for some years now and have been happy with the service. When we had a problem they fixed it very quickly.

BT have the worst customer service I have ever experienced (with Tesco a close second). I spent more than 6 months talking to service reps in India who would not get an engineer out to fix our faulty broadband. When we moved house I cancelled the BT service. They day we moved into the new house they turned up to fix the lines in the new place !!!!????? 2 hours later NTL (now Virgin) turned up and did their installation.

Slower than 51% of GB, it says there! That's my trusty old NTL (now Virgin) 10Mb link bouncing off the furthest UK server I could find. I didn't think 97.4% was a bad achievement...

I second that been with them for along time, you cannot will not get better. I see loads of cheaper deals out there but if you want a solid connection and amazing customer service...go ZEN.

I reported an fault getting online with them, they checked the fault and phoned me back to say it was a BT hardware issue. They phone me back an hour later to say not to expect it back on for at least 2 hours, they then phoned me to tell me it was back on, then to my amazement again a couple of days later just to check all was OK! One of many examples over the years.

What they say Zardoz am i right?

First FTTC install last year booked for late morning an engineer was around 3 mile away and finished a job. He called and said i'll be there in 20 mins at 8.35am. Great chap even said copper cable was available for the select few.
Thought it was the day after.

Second engineer two weeks later hadnt a clue "you need a fibre router" There were three in front of him DLink, Tplink and a Netgear N. Left unworking.

No engineer visit when migrated to BT Infinity but should have been up and running on 18th, not so after plenty of giving grief got them to swap over on 25th.
Theres a long catalogue of missed visits and general cock ups not only on their site but others as well.

My worry was being left stranded with no connection and no way of contacting, needed daily for business. They ok it with me on home package.
I held out for weeks and wouldnt give MAC until they gave me a UK call number. Upon cancelling they even lied just to retain me by giving another global number, thats how low they stoop.
I may well have in excess of 40meg download on btspeedtest.com but cant stream HD without constant buffering. What i had in mind was IPTV with the 'unlimited' use. Incidently only 270 yards from cab.
Only another 17 months to go then i am off, wish had gone back to ADSL24 again.

My broadband seems to be reasonable, been happy with Bt, any problems been sorted and when i upgraded to infinity(first in box) everything went smoothly. Engineer checked all the things that needed a wifi signal connected before he left.

replaced line then found fault 2 telegraph poles up.

Then 2nd telephone line (business) wouldn't work - despite being on same line from telegraph pole.

various calls with India, engineer sent again. tested line and found cable around outside of house was broken. replace cable.

1 month later, bill for £160 called India, who said they couldn't do anything as BT Openzone (the engineers) are a different comnay to BT and they have no redress.

Called again, same answer, asked to escalate, same answer. despite the fact there T&C's say if the fault is outside the house they will not charge they did, and refused to refund. Only escalation route was to write (no phone number, no e-mail address) to customer services in the UK

Have to say i gave up as it was costing more money in my time away from the business than the £160.

In short, BT are lying, cheating, thiefs!!

aargh! you can't let that go that's ridiculous the faults with their equipment and is totally beyond your responsibility, stop paying your bill, amazingly like I found with orange you will be able to speak to someone in England . Don't let them get away with that. I appreciate what your saying about cost and your business but seriously thats just crazy.

Interesting stuff about lines, last year we had front of house repointed and the guy pulled the phone line off the brickwork then nailed it back, broadband ground to a halt shortly after so I rang zen. Within 24 hour they sent out a man who noticed new wire from pole to house connected to a very old wire at the roofline. Water getting in through knackered insulation got the blame. Wait one hour man with hydraulic platform turns up and rewires it, they were delighted when I said I wanted a new socket on the outside wall and the internal wiring could be abandoned. Excellent service, no charge, but organised by zen!

Over on the island choice isn't really an option, only a couple of companies to choose from and all roughly the same price £30 a month. But the company I am with includes free local and uk calls via an IP service which saves us quite a bit of money with my missus' family being in Morecambe.

But whilst a tad expensive the service is spot on, i get about 13 meg down and half a meg up, no dropouts in about 3 odd years with them, online billing and faults dealt with within an hour by them.

The main local telecom provider have started ultima broadband with 40 meg download but you have to be within 5km of the exchange and I am just over 5km.

Every time I log on it makes me sick was with Bangalore Towers first, then moved to Trials and Tribulations, doesn't seem to make a difference who I use I'm still stuck with two copper wires...in this day and age.....DISGUSTING.

Just to add to my bitterness re paying for their engineer, this is the peformance I get

Kinda proud that I am WORSE than 91% of the UK!

And the signal continually stalls and breaks

Spent last night looking at ZEN, £24 for telephone incl 1000 minutes and £19 for broadband with 20GB, Virgin £2 more expensive for unlimited calls and 40GB - but they are an 18 month contract, Zen are 1 month only.

Will need to decide which one to go for and change next week!

Is it just me, or is anyone else annoyed by the recent spate of companies using the word "Infinity" or "Infinite" incorrectly? Vauxhall had some kind of warranty plan called Infinity, but it only lasts for 100,000 miles or two owners or some such nonsense. Not quite infinity in my eyes.
