Waiting for printer connection...

I know theres one of two computer experts on here, so, I keep getting this window popping up and its getting rather annoying.

I'm running windows 10.

It started doing this a week or so back and now happens every half hour or so.

So the question is, Which application is putting the message out? How can I see the history. I look at Task manager but cant see anything obvious.

My printers are turned off as always. I dont want to fix the problem by making a printer connection, I want to see what irritaing bit of software is causing the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Printer make and model? It will almost certainly be the printers own software package.

Has the printer driver "upgraded" itself.

Some try and sell you ink now so it's probably trying to figure out how much you "need".

Epson WF-7620 and Xerox C310.

How can I see what apps have run in the past?

I'm not sure windows logs which applications have run, but you could approach it the other way around, and restart the machine and login without starting any apps, and see whether the message appears after the 30 mins. If not, just start one app and then leave it for a while. rinse and repeat.

It could be worth checking each printer's queue under Printer & Scanner settings to see if there are any documents that are sat there waiting to print. (not sure if windows clears out the queues on a restart, but worth a quick check)

Also, can you think of anything that happened about 2 weeks ago which could be related? - In the settings panel there's a checkbox called "Let Windows manage my default printer" which makes Windows remember the last printer/location combo - maybe you printed to a printer 2 weeks back and windows changed it's default. If it is checked, you could try unchecking and setting your own default to see if it helps.

Usually in these situations, I blame windows updates and do a google to see if others are reporting new issues in the same time frame, but today my google foo has failed me.

Have you checked your computer's Settings and then entered the area showing Devices and then opened the field for printers and scanners?
There is information available to enable you to trouble shoot to get your printers working.
With Windows 10 click on the Windows icon at the lower left hand of your screen. Click on the cog wheel shown [Settings]. The settings screen will be displayed and you need to click on the Devices field. Select Printers and Scanners and click on trouble shooting. Information regarding the problem should be displayed. Now you mention it, a new version of windows loaded itself up a week or two back. Maybe thats what started this.

This morning thwe message popped up for a second and disapeared.

Anyway I turned "Let Windows manage my default printer" off. We will see what happens.

Had a look at task manager, app history, and;

Zerox Print shows up, and a load of other carp which I dont use. Maybe thats the problem, its as @JMS1972 suggested. We will see.
