Volvo v70 electrical issue

I have a puzzling problem with my 2002 v70 d5.

Used my trailer to collect a load of of wood offcutd from work.

Got a warning saying a bulb had blown. This sometimes happens when using the trailer. Usually its not a bulb blown.

Next message was multiple bulbs blown. Got to work and found ns front side light and dip beam not working plus rear ns tail light.
Bulbs ok. Fuses ok and relays clicking.

Any ideas?

Does your tow bar electrics have a bypass relay? Most modern cars use canbus and will need one or the vehicles bulb failure system throws a fit. If you unplug the trailer and turn the ignition off and on you may find the bulbs start working again.
A bypass relay should overcome these issues.

does it have a canbus system? i have had some problems with one of the volvos we had in the past not liking trailer lights

Dont think it does. The trailer may have caused the issue but what it the problem?

I have used a number of different trailers with it and not an issue.

I have had earthing issues make lights do strange things, have you looked inside the plug to see if it is clean and not oxidised

Cola has phosporic acid in it & does an excelent job of cleaning the contacts, alternatively white wine vinegar. Remember to clean both of with clean water afterward.

Nearly sorted. After stripping the dash to get to the central electronic light unit I found nothing. Checked fuses again and then the bulb. As i put the headlight connector back on the light flickered - connector is knackered.
I thought all the bulbs going was connected to the trailer but it might not be. Just got sidelights to sort.
