Volts / Amps

hi,

been trying to fine tune my welder and have found that my volt reading never gets above 20 when welding. tryed welding some 10mm steel plate and got the amps up to 250/270 however the volts just sat around 17 which is not high enough. is my volt meter broken or am i doin somthing wrong?

V= I*R
I=V/R
R=V/I

V is volt I is amp R is resitance. its ohms law the current(amps) would be directly proportional to the voltage. when one value goes up the other value goes down.

Doesn't sound crazy. What is the spec of the welder? Did you have the volts turned up all the way?

its an old murex 405s. i just went on the miller web site and found that i should be up at higher volts when welding 10mm plate. i think i am around 17 volts at the moment but the miller site recomends 23-24.
my amps are well up at 280 thought?
