It's difficult to see what caused the crash in the first place, did he rear end someone?

I wonder at what point in time the tanker driver thought now might be a good time to retreat?
Almost straight after the crash - you can just seem him dash off towards the central reservation. To be honest when I watched it first I wondered whether he actually survived - scary stuff.

I was thinking in terms to the driver of the red tanker behind the blue truck 0.55 secs into the video. It must be milk because if that was a fuel tanker I would have been out of there....pronto!!!

it just goes to show how unsafe wagons full of cylinders are it wasnt a really horrific crash, as far as the cargo goes yet they still went up almost instantly

Interesting observation.
I had exactly the opposite conclusion. I was (pleasantly) surprised at how long it took for the last of the cylinders to cook off and how short a distance they travelled! Far less 'impressive' than I was expecting
The surprise for me was why the initial fire started - presumably from the wagon's fuel system.
On the other hand the last such training video I saw was of bulk propane road tank wagon BLEVE - in Belgium or Holland I think.
I was accustomed to doing the calcs for c.1500 Te of Propane not 47 kg.

[but did u notice how the bottles spewed out of the front sides of the wagon when it crashed ?obviously they wernt tied in and were all sat loose . so there was the problem and wouldnt have happened over here as there all secured

Oxygen cylinder is the most impressive I'd guess- you do see one of the cylinders going up and over to the right I think it was.
I have seen 20ltr petrol gerrycans going up in the air 30 feet or so-there was a fire in an emergency fuel store and the exploding cans punted up some full ones.

When we were kids we thought it would be fun to put an unopened tin of baked beans into our camp fire, after retreating to a safe distant we waited with baited breath for half an hour but nothing happened.
Thinking it had failed we walked back to the fire just as the tin exploded, trying to explain to our parents why we were covered in big red blisters where the red hot baked beans had welded themselves to the exposed parts of our bodies was difficult!
I still have the vision of a baked bean flying through the air and smacking me square between the eyes!
