Vinyl graphics

Exploring a few ideas at the moment.

One would involve a panel of glass which would have vinyl graphics on one side.
The main side you would see, would have the graphics behind the glass.

The question is, how long do we think that vinyl graphics on a glass panel would stay looking good- the panel would be mounted outside, in a semi sheltered location.

It would be kept clean, not just left to go green etc.

if you use the stuff they use for vans... iirc it has a 5 year life?

Not sure how good the sticky side of the vinyl will look. i'd test it before you go any further

As I remember from my days in the biz, the expensive cast stuff (wrapping vinyl) can have up to 9 years life. The cheaper calendered stuff has a life of 3, 5 or 7 years depending on price, in my experience they far outlast their stated life if not in too harsh an environment.

The big difference between types is the amount of shrinkage. The really cheap stuff can shrink up to 10mm (!) Leaving a horrible dirty mark all around the peice.

That was a very common notice method at work, smoking shelters, bike sheds, bus shelters etc and the signs had been there for a good few years without any obvious fading or peeling off...and some very exposed to wind and rain off the Irish sea.

Probably a good case for buying quality to ensure durability.

it will be fine, use 7 or 9 year and it will last many many years with out shrinking, it does so on the side of a truck in all weathers at 60 mph
you wont notice the glue on the reverse side through the glass, you will of course have to cut your graphics in reverse to read right from the "otherside"
you will have better clarity when sticking them on the outside but when l have to do the opening hours on the doors l reverse cut and put then on the inside to stop the little "darlings" peeling them off and altering the opening hours

Sounds like a goer then, have a word with me sticker man. He uses decent stuff, last lot I had of him were 3M stuff iirc.

Not lettering, so problem of handing it.
