Video Editing Software?

I'm getting ready to do some more videos for the website. The quality of the videos should be a lot better than the last lot - the webcam has been replaced by a proper camera, and the SifLite helmet from Weldequip (Many Thanks! ) has got around some reflection problems.

Problem is my video editing software isn't up to the job - I'd like to crop length, ideally crop width and height, or resize, and export to flash. I've got Macromedia Flash MX, but that's all, and it seems a little limited in video editing (Else I've not figured it out - I either have a huge file or heavy pixelation, or more normally both).

What does everyone else use?

You could look at the free version of Any Video Converter.
I don't think this lets you edit, rather it is just a format converter, I'm pretty sure it'll resize resolutions & output flash movies, but as it's free you've nothing to lose.

If you use windows it's either already installed or a free download..

I've used Pinnacle Studio but although pretty good, it did have some bugs and I've lost touch with the latest versions. I've also used Ulead Video Studio (now Corel Video Studio), which is very powerful and easy to use. I still haven't managed to get the full version since Corel seem to want to charge UK users a lot more than those in the rest of the world with no good justification that I can see

If you Google "Ulead Video Studio", as well as the Corel version which you can download for evaluation, you will also find older Ulead evaluation versions to download.

I reckon you'd be able to sort out your videos within the evaluation period...

I've been trying to learn to weld for years now using commercial books and a 'professional' DVD. I've learned more after half an hour with your tutorial and videos than with all of them. Can't believe new ones could be any better!

Thanks for all the recommendations.

I've cracked it a bit - I'd not realised there was an option in windows movie maker to export as a "High Quality Video". That means I can use that to crop without losing quality.

Only thing now is most of the area around the weld is dark and compression using Flash results in lots of little squares unless I use very little compression. I'll try some of the other programs that export to Flash to see if they handle compression differently.
