Vfd vs phase converter.

not withstanding any other issues it may have, what would be the best (read cheapest and easiest to setup) way of powering it?

im not too familiar with 3 phase...

For something like that, it would have to be something capable of having a switched load on the output, so you'd really be looking at a rotary or digital phase converter capable of outputting full 380/415V 3 phase.

In all honesty, if that was the only thing you were planning to power with 3 phase, you'd be cheaper just buying a single phase power washer.

its the chicken and the egg scenario.... i don't buy 3 phase stuff because i have no 3 phase, and i have no 3 phase because i have nothing to power with it.

its a £20 diesel steam cleaner. I've taken a punt on it and if i get it ill take it to a mates garage to see what's wrong with it.

worst come to the worst ill hybridise it with a petrol washer or sell it again.

but if i have the ability to power 3 phase stuff, ill be buying more...

but i need to get educated first

Page 10 has the wiring diagram. Looks like all the control circuitry runs off 24v, and the only thing that needs 415v is the 7.5kW (10HP) motor.

You'd need one with a higher rating. It would probably cost an arm, a leg, and a left nut, though

240-415 VFDs are not cheap.

And 7.5kW is the top end of a 32A single phase supply. You are not going to plug it into an extension lead.

As m_c says, you either find something that is OK being switched under load downstream of the VFD (generally for this you need to overspecify the VFD) or you have to rewire the control circuitry in the machine to switch the VFD (and if the control circuitry goes into error mode if it does not see instant response from the motor, you are going in an ever-decreasing circle).
