any one know if this would be any good for my lathe? its a 3ph 3.05 hp 4 pole. is it a ****e one, or would it be ok for hobby use etc

Why not? My 4HP inverter runs from a 13A socket quite happily. Granted I don't tug 4HP from it...

Would probably be cheaper to get a 3hp ish single phase motor, it doesnt need to be massive, mineS onlY a 2 or a 2.5 cant quite remember.

ive seen motors for around 120 ish quid. thought if i used an inverter i may be able to use a 3 phase welder off it too. the motor in the lathe is 3.05 hp 4 pole from a colchester chipmaster. can anyone find me a second hand motor, looked everywhere. none on the bay of E

I started a thread late last year about vfds (Colchester student), someone posted a link to an ebay shop for motors. For various reasons not limited to but including be me being crap mines still not set up but as well as the link there's some other useful info in that thread.

It's a long list... Mainly me being crap but time, sorting space (things in the way including a car in pieces), moving the thing and finding the time to get it set up etc.

It was a last minute thing (phone call one evening with the lathe due a day or two later), seller never managed to get it delivered and ended up dumping it in my mates yard (oiled, shrinkwrapped and tarped). Can't complain as the price included delivery but he felt bad about messing me around and it's ended up being free . Problem then became moving it- i live inside of the low emission zone and all the contacts i have for moving it easily and cheaply aren't emission zone compliant.

The Student's for my home shop (replace or supplement the Myford) as the workshop space i use (can't really say rent) includes use of their machine shop which has a Master 2500 and a 13" Harrison so while a bigger lathe at home would be nice i'm not short of lathes to use which brings us to me being lazy and crap...

Gonna have to get it sorted soon as the pisstaking is becoming relentless everytime i'm doing lathe work there.
