Very slow PC windows 10

YeH I know. Should have stayed with 7 but it seemed a good idea at the time.

It's been slowing up for a while.
I first thought it was my Internet but.

So I looked further...wifi was rapid so check the ethernet. Well not brilliant but still not the problem.

Seemed to be pointing to Firefox. So shut that down and carried on working/messing around.

Then it fails to load a model in cura 5. Shut cura down and tried Firefox again.
Seems to be ok so a quick cnt/alt delete and I get right at the top is the CPU maxed out. I only rebooted nearly 7 hours or so ago.

What seems a possible cause?

I can still run malware bytes. And that's showing nothing.

windows has always been a memory hogger and its never been fixed since xp

it never gives back closed programs memory usage

watch out for heavy memory usage programs if you use them always consider shut down and restart

if cpu is maxed out have you had any recent updates as theres a known issue with windows 10 and high cpu error

if not check which program is heavy with the cpu

Acronis True image. so I looked for an upgrade BUT its 54 quid per year now.. and the premium like I already have its 139 quid per year. I need to find an alternative!

What a load of rubbish, how and why does it hold memory for a closed program?
Which updates cause a high CPU error? Updated mine yesterday and it's just as fast as ever

not all closed programs free the memory back so windows can use it again

there was a program called freeram xp it did exactly that when windows wouldnt and still wont even now with 7 and up to 11

so if im talking rubbish get your facts right here

the program used to get back all of the memory that was used up and fully refreshed the ram again

my pc was on 24hrs a day all year so i know better

unless acronis is doing a backup or creating an image

you dont really need it or better known ive only ever used it to create an image of a new install easy enough to update afterwards without program errors or wrongly deleted files
as everything is a brand new install

i really only ever use it via an image or creating one otherwise its not installed on pc

I had an 'all in one' pc/screen thing, that came equipped with Win 10. After a year battling with the useless, slow, bloated, continually updating piece of garbage I put the mouse through the screen and literally threw the whole out of the bedroom window. Never have I used such a rubbish piece of junk, ever.

Current build of windows 10 is 18 months old. Still running as quick as it was in the begining.

My work Win10 laptop runs very badly if both Ethernet and Wifi are enabled simultaneously. Not sure if this us related to your issue, there could be a myriad of reasons but worth a try.

I follow the guides and use the tools from this guy, pretty safe as long as you watch the videos and stick to the recommended setting and quicker than doing what I can and know how to do manually.

Out of the box Windows 10 is awful, turn off/uninstall all the useless crap and I can tolerate it. If I didn't need it for Fusion 360 I would be running Linux. I think Windows 10 peeked at the last build to have all the power settings available, 18 something or other, but I wouldn't recommend installing an older version.

The rubbish machine I bought had 900gb for program files, and 100gb for personal files. Lord knows who designed the setup. It was slower than molasses, even after I followed numerous on line 'expert' ideas on how to improve it.

There was a time that even a fresh install on a new hard drive couldn't get rid of bloat, now a new windows install not from a manufacturers restore disk usually sorts it out.

There is a lot of money in data encouraging companies to collect as much as they can, it slows everything down, would love to know how much energy it uses globally.

id have looked for earlier drivers far quicker and dropped it down to another operating system

but thats me

i had windows 10 on laptop couldnt get drivers for the hp laptop none made was looking elsewhere really considering swapping over to the other operating system

daughter needed a laptop to conserve power so install a new hard drive after acronising the old one create an image reinstall on the new hard drive and gave it to her

dont ask what happened to it

id had enough early on locked it out no updates and no reinstalls im fine when i had the laptop

do i like windows 10, No, does my daughter Nope

the only way windows 10 was being dished out was if it was free or a forced install
companys have to pay for it
normal users you cant control it as we at microsoft do as it was free you cant complain what we do

Explain the statement "not all closed programs free the memory back so windows can use it again"

If the program is closed, it has no say in the memory allocation.
If you mean windows is reserving the memory space incase the program restarts then that is true, however if that memory is needed by another task or program then it will be released

"Free" memory is largely irrelevant, as it's just memory not currently being used

The only time my windows 10 slows down is when it's downloading updates. I find it quite stable and have had no big problems with it although my computer is now over 10 years old and still on the 21H1 edition which will not be supported forever.

10th gen i7 10510U with 16gb ddr4, flies on bleeding edge windows 10

Celeron N4120 (1.1ghz) and 8gb ddr4. Also very quick on windows 11

Both have fast nvme drives

I had been advised by a couple of people that it would be rubbish, and I think it was basically far too under specced to run the bloated commercial Win10.
