This is my merc 208 cdi. Brought it about 10 months ago to convert into a camper.

Was supposed to be ready for this summer but it looks like next summer now!
Windows are in the back doors now, awninging fitted and it insulated and lined out.
Fold up bed to do next and some units.

I have a LT35 1990 2 berth with all the bits, heating, full cooker, 3 way fridge, shower/toilet, hot water boiler. It is in super condition mechanically. Underneath is pristine. Has towbar and facility for boot washing at the rear. Does not get used now as my son and his wife have a kid now. I keep it roadworthy and it passed its test In June. PM me if you want more info/pictures. It is a 2.5 diesel and 30 mpg and 50mph are what it likes. It will go faster but it starts to get noisy. No powered steering but as long as the front tyres pressures are correct there are no problems. Typical old school van. It was professionally converted and the company are still active albeit it is now run by the chaps son.

I did think about that, but the demountables are going for about the same as a complete camper! Price of "classic" trucks has shot up lately too
Aside from that, having somewhere to store the demountable, as I'd end up using the truck part as - well - a truck?

I'm making my own demountable body My UMM Transcat rear body needs a lot of work so it's going to be turned into a flatbed. The body will just be a shell with captive rails, nuts or whatever on the floor so camper fittings can be attached when needed and just a bare van at others.
