Hi its a Mighty Midget welder.
Could be scrap, why are the dinse sockets hanging out,if its had a fault and someone has taken the rotor and stator apart then it is beyond repair as the magnetic field has been lost and these alternators are notorisly difficult to remagnatise. The engine fitted to these welders was a choice of JLO 372 two stroke on early models of which I have one with movable buss bars on the out put to get the two amperage settings.JLO 374 two stroke on later models or Lister ST1 diesels which I think may have powered this one and has been removed for other use.Petbow in sandwich bought the rights to make the welder from Hayter and fitted a 13 HP Honda engine that was not right for the job.It was 1HP down on the JLO and struggled to keep running on full amps. knocked out keyways and couplings every two years were common. The cause of this was the use of a straight shaft and key being subjected to shock loads when the welder stopped.JLO engines had a key and taper that was FT to remove and did not suffer this problem.Hayters main competitor was a weder made by Max Arc of Guildford which cosisted of a JLO engine mated to an Austrian Hummel alternator and having used boyh machines the Max Arc was far superior.Parts are like hens teeth and i would be suprised if the control board could still be supplied.Petbow stopped making these Mighty Midget welders over ten years ago when they were aquired by Cummins with all parts supply being taken over by a local business whose phone just rings when called so buy with caution. These welders were first made over 40 years ago and cannot match todays welders for arc smoothness and control.
