D Dooker New Member Messages 1 Oct 19, 2011 #1 Ive just started on my vertical welds. The problem that i have is that when i reach the middle of the weld the welder seems to splutter and therfore cant get a proper run at it. how do i stop this? ive wire speed set at 2 and fine speed set at 4.

K keith19 Forum Supporter Messages 1,346 Oct 19, 2011 #2 What welder are you using? What thickness is the metal? Your settings seem very low unless it's a powerful machine. A small hobby welder can run out of breath on a longish vertical up on heavy metal, as in any position. Sometimes you can get a splutter if you're underneath a vehicle doing a vertical up and the torch cable gets kinked without you noticing. A bit more information will help the guys analyse your problem.
