vertical up z weave

good evening all..
as i did not have a lot to do today i thought i would get the oerlikon 3.2 inverter and spud out a few slags..

a shake of a start but once i got settled in all seamed ok..now on a virtical up weld on 6mm plate i would run a route weld..is the route weld a single string weld or a small weave and the z weave as a final finish on top...

what ever works best for you. with stick I usually just run stringers except for the final pass, which I hold on the edges for a sec then flick over to other edge and hold again.

ok cool..its an art to get it to look sensible..v down seams easier and looks better but minimal penetration..

yeah v down isn't really good for most applications where penetration is required.

it just takes practice, the welds in the pic look ok though

thanks...was just warming up today for the monolithic task tomorrow with fathers antique arc welder....joy.....

do a few practice runs first on some scrap to get the amps right, that's half the task, its much easier when the amps are spot on, just a few too low and you start getting problems i have found

yes..will set up on some scrap first..hes got plenty of old stuff lying around..some of stuff he has had me welding over the past few months..I should have a diploma in it!!
But yes..setting up is the key..
