what type of welding are you doing?With such a vague post I'm not surprised there's been no answers.

sorry-i thought this particular forum was mig welding for learners. ..but yes its mig and im making more blobs than good welds going vertical sideways. i can weld ok uphill but this part im welding (trying to) has a bit of an underhang too-but its basically sideways and i watch half the melted metal turn into blobs and roll off..make any sense yet?

Do you mean you are welding along an overhead seam from underneath?
Or are you welding a seam sideways onto a panel/frame that is standing vertically?
Folks on here really also need to know what make and size wire you're using, whether it is gas-shielded or gasless (flux-cored), what thickness your metal is, even what make and model of welder you've got, to get into giving detailed feedback.
The general advice is to increase your wire speed slightly above what you find good on the flat, mostly by trial and error till you get it right. You might also try short runs.
If it's overhead welding you are doing, just enter 'overhead welding' into the site search bar and lots of links with good advice come up.
Personally I find overhead welding most difficult (and painful!) of all techniques, and if you are new to mig welding I wouldn't recommend it as a first job. Please do the search above to see if that helps, then post more info if you still need advice.

im going to dig a 5 feet deep hole to the left hand side of the car and push it in it so it lands on it side and the sill that im doing will be flat! )
im using a baby clarke 90en, 0.6mm with argolite ang the inner step that im doing is 1mm thick(thin!).

abstractduk, it would be better if you could post a picture or two. There are people on here who can diagnose a welding problem picture at a glance.
Just a recap - did you say the molten weld metal is going 'globby' and rolling off, or threatening to? Does this mean it's burning off the edges of one of your panels, or is it just the melted wire sitting there in little blobs? You aren't blowing holes yet, even in 1mm? I usually blow holes in 1mm!
It sounds like even at 1mm you aren't penetrating the metal, so maybe you could check the wire speed and let us know what settings the toggle switches are on. With the 90EN using 0.6mm and gas on 1mm mild steel you should be either on 2 and Min, or 1 and Max, I think, with a wire speed of about 6 to start with. If the wire speed is too low the heat produced will not penetrate the metal, and if the wire melts it will sit on top.
I know it's odd that the wire speed has to be turned so far on the dial for such thin metal, but that's the way most small Clarkes are calibrated.
Keep at it, these are early days yet!
